The weather has made it seem a lot longer than 17 days! It feels like summer and the room has been very warm! Indian summer for sure. We have begun to talk about the fall and are starting to decorate our classroom with reds, oranges, greens and yellows. We sponge painted some pumpkins for a bulletin board and will watercolor some leaves next week.
In literacy we have been working on the letters m, n, f, b and t. We need to know what sounds each make and if we can hear the sounds at the beginning of words. We have been sorting, listening and writing letters. We also met at a guided reading table and practiced pointing to words as we read a story about color words. It can be difficult to see those finger spaces between words and where sentences end. When we finish our color word books have your child read his/her story book to you making sure that he/she is pointing accurately to the words being read. This is one of the beginning strategies to reading.
In Math we are comparing groups of objects and determining if they are greater than, less than or equal in number. The hardest part is explaining our answers while using these math words. We continue to play a lot of games (team work) as well as practicing number formations to 5.
