What a great day at Southwick!

We had a wonderful trip! The day was picture perfect. Cool in the shade, a bit  hot in the sun but truly a great day for a field trip. A big thanks to all the chaperones who took the time to help us out.

It's Spring! Our plants are sprouting!

We began planting our bean seeds last week and they are growing so quickly! We spent our time each day observing the changes and recorded what we saw in a journal. We made sure that our seeds and plants were well watered and placed in a sunny spot by the window. It has been fun to watch the different stages of the life cycle that each plant is in. It has been very exciting! Some of us will be ready to take them home on Friday to replant in a garden.

Story Word Problems

One aspect of math that has been a focus this spring has been story math problems. An activity that we did in class required one student to write a math problem and for another to solve it. Here are some examples.

This problem was written by Maeve and solved by Emma.
I saw three houses on my street. Then I saw two more houses on my street. How many did I see?

This problem was written by Bethany and solved by Audrey.
I saw 10 purple birds pass by me. Then I saw 1 pink bird pass by me. How many did I see?

This problem was written by Cecilia and solved by Zico.
I had 11 eggs in my basket. I ate 6. How many did I have left?

Well, it has been a year of writing, writing and more writing. Take a peek at a few of our samples after we read the story Russell the Sheep. Everyone's work was great!
