Friday Update

We are off to a great start. We are into the letters b, f, m, t and n in our Foundations Program and have been rhyming as well. We have practiced writing the letters, finding words that begin with those letters. hearing the beginning sounds in words with those letters as well as reciting (not singing) the alphabet daily. We have sorted pictures, used computer games with the alphabet, completed rhyming puzzles and played rhyming games throughout the week. We have also been practicing our names in lowercase letters.

We have also begun our Writing Program by introducing the art of storytelling. The children have been creating great stories that we talk about in whole group. We identify the characters and the setting. We discuss the beginning, middle and end. We also talk about the feelings that the characters are having throughout the story. In the end, we actually act it out! We respectfully decide on characters and sometimes we use props from the classroom. We have been having a lot of fun.

In Math we have been focusing on the numbers 0 - 5. We are leaning how to talk math and explain answers given to some problems. Not easy to do but we are just beginning and will get so much better by the end of the year. We have been writing numbers and playing lots of partner games as well as  dice games. We have learned about order and the math terms whole, part and arrangement.

PIN night

Parent Information Night (PIN) will be held this Thursday at Memorial. The kindergarten session will begin at 6pm with an introduction from our principal Dr. Bilsborough in the gym. After that parents will head back to their child's designated classroom (Room 6 for you) for a brief presentation about the school year. Hope to see you all there!

We are off to a great start!

The year has begun in full swing. It was a week of getting to know each other and all of our friends. It was a week of establishing rules and boundaries in the classroom. It was a week of HEAT! Too hot really to be in our classroom but we survived none the less. We are getting to know names and played  a hot potato game to do just that. Many of us know each other already but many of us still have a ways to go. It has been fun so far and I hope that everyone had a great start!
