Week 11

Week 6 entailed working on ten frames in Math. Counting and making sure we could represent that number in many different ways. We also made combinations of 5 by tossing chips with two sided colors. We still need a lot of work writing our numbers.

Count the room. Find the pumpkin ten frames and record them with the correct number.

Practice counting and writing our numbers to 10.

Toss the Chips. How many different combinations of 5 can  you toss?

We continue to talk about trees, leaves and the weather. We observed and talked about the different kind of leaves that grow on maple, oak and beech trees. We brought a leaf in from home, observed it and make a leaf rubbing.

In Literacy we worked on the letters s and d. We read a counting book together making sure we pointed to each word read. We practiced rhyming on the computer and brainstormed words that began with these letters and counted out the syllables. We also ordered pumpkins from the largest to the smallest on a fence.

And of course, Makerspace is always so much fun!

Week 9

In Literacy this week, we worked on the letters c and o. We also reviewed rhyming and syllables in words.

In Math we are working on the numbers 6 - 10. How do we write them? What strategies do we use to count? Can we make a correct quantity to match a number? Can I explain my answer?

In Science, we are studying trees and weather. We picked a tree in the schoolyard to follow throughout the year. We will watch as it changes over time. How do animals use trees? How do humans use trees? We had some lively discussions! We also talked about the parts of a tree and labeled one of our drawings.

Happy Birthday Nolan!

Practicing reading with an understanding that pictures help us read!

Sat at the Listening Center for the first time this year.

Do these pictures rhyme? An ongoing skill we practice.

Writing numbers 6 - 10 and drawing the correct quantity.

Counting blue and green cubes in a bag. Which color has more?

While studying trees, we drew one and labeled its parts.
