Behavior Management
Our system of behavior management has begun. The children are aware of the slider system and marble jar in the classroom. We have discussed the rules and the expected behavior we need to present all day in school.
The behavior that is expected are the rules we have talked about and are posted in the classroom coinciding with good behavior in the building. The classroom rules are as follows:
Follow directions for the first time.
Keep hands and feet to yourself.
Walk in and out of the classroom. NO RUNNING.
No chatting or playing with friends during circle time when the teacher is talking. LISTEN.
Use nice words at all times.
Raise your hand and answer only when you are called upon.
Should someone continue to ignore the rules after a teacher request, he/she is asked to move one spot on a slider and is given an explanation why. Should he/she move to the red spot, a phone call will be made home to make you aware of what is happening with the hope that he/she can get back on track. Basically, three strikes and you are out! The slider does go back to green the next day to start new.
On the other hand, good behavior is rewarded through the marble jar. Every time someone does an expected behavior and the teacher notices, a marble can be placed in the jar. When the marble jar is filled, we have earned a special treat i.e. pajama day, movie day etc.
Right now we are just about at the top of our marble jar!

Conferences
A google document was forwarded to you for the November conferences. Please remember to sign up for a day and time. Make sure you mark it on your calendars.
Ocean World
Ocean World is such a big hit every year! It is an opportunity to meet with a marine biologist and explore live sea animals from the North Atlantic Ocean. We were able to carefully touch and hold them! When we got back to our rooms we wrote about our favorite part to put in our Memory Books.

Friday Update
We are off to a great start. We are into the letters b, f, m, t and n in our Foundations Program and have been rhyming as well. We have practiced writing the letters, finding words that begin with those letters. hearing the beginning sounds in words with those letters as well as reciting (not singing) the alphabet daily. We have sorted pictures, used computer games with the alphabet, completed rhyming puzzles and played rhyming games throughout the week. We have also been practicing our names in lowercase letters.
We have also begun our Writing Program by introducing the art of storytelling. The children have been creating great stories that we talk about in whole group. We identify the characters and the setting. We discuss the beginning, middle and end. We also talk about the feelings that the characters are having throughout the story. In the end, we actually act it out! We respectfully decide on characters and sometimes we use props from the classroom. We have been having a lot of fun.
In Math we have been focusing on the numbers 0 - 5. We are leaning how to talk math and explain answers given to some problems. Not easy to do but we are just beginning and will get so much better by the end of the year. We have been writing numbers and playing lots of partner games as well as dice games. We have learned about order and the math terms whole, part and arrangement.
